Wipers came to be part of tank farming in the Usa in the late 1980s. The earliest were established in the mid-1960's. Fish manufacturers buy the young fish and elevate them in freshwater pools. Virtually 10 million pounds of these fish are generated each year in the Usa. Wipers are both a gamefish and a food fish. Often times when "candy striped bass" is listed on a food selection, it is truly hybrid striped bass that has been farm raised.

There is a bass that is birthed of two other varieties of bass. Its name is the hybrid removed bass, otherwise referred to as wipers. Other names are cherokee bass or sunshine bass. Several of the very first hybrids were equipped in Cherokee Lake in Tennessee in the 1970's. They are distinguished from the candy striped bass by busted red stripes, as opposed to solid straight stripes, on their physical bodies. This hybrid fish, born of the striped bass and white bass, is more capable then its types parents of withstanding extremes of temperature level, as well as reduced liquefied oxygen. These hybrids grow faster compared to either of its father and mothers.
